Judy, every time I think of Christening gowns a couple of things come to mind....because I am a Baptist, I grew up without really knowing what Godparents were about or Christenings..we dedicate our babies to the church and when you're 12 or over, you choose whether to commit your life to Jesus and get baptized. When my cousin, a Catholic, was pregnant, I saw a lovely christening gown to crochet and decided that would be a good place to start learning to crochet! (Not). Well, I'm a lefty so even my crocheting Grandma couldn't help me, and I started and stopped 5 times before I got the gauge right! LOL. Why I didn't pick one to knit( I already knitted) I don't know, but undaunted, I produced a nice shell-patterned gown...only the baby came early, weighing 3 lbs. and that it was too huge for her! Several years later somebody asked me to be a Godmother and then I found out what it meant. The dedication of babies ceremony is similar to christening, with parents and people they pick as Godparent equivalents, but there's no water sprinkled. Good luck with the antiques. I know it's a hard time, and hope it picks up...Linda H.
