| Linda, I have had dogs all my life and gradually worked my way through a lot of different breeds and mixed breeds. It used to be if they survived the first year you had no more worries. This was back in the days when distemper was the worst you had to worry about. So it's been an eye opener to have these dogs so long and then have a problem. They are (at least ours) high maintenance. It's been one thing after another with them. But they are sweet dogs and so obedient. Of course they require lots of training as puppies to be obedient. Our three will come and jump into my chair and wait for their meds. Our vets really like them because they are so sweet and obliging. They are supposed to live twenty years but I don't know if they'll make that. We thought they would be our last dogs since we are 77 & 79 yrs old. Now I don't know. Skip -------Original Message------- Skip, my brother Charlie fell in love with and adopted a papillion last spring/early summer, looking actually for a new cat when theirs got killed. His name is Chopper. Unlike their huge mix-breed hound, Augie, though, they found out the little guy is high maintenance. We first met him in July and he's beautiful, though. (My sister's pug, Daisy, is high maintenance, too). I was giving my cat Junior meds. 3x a day for his last 6 momths; I would've done more for him if I could, but I know what you mean about having to deal with that...Linda H. | |||
