[NeedlecraftPals] Checking in

Wow, October already. I LOVE this month, I think it's one of my faves.
I'm currently working on slippers (two are for an order), a doily that's been set aside, and soon a Barbie devil costume for an order from Australia.

I am thankful that (so far) the cold that 3 of the 4 of us have had seems to be missing me, and hope it just avoids me altogether.

Today, I witnessed our younger rat taking care of our older rat. We bought Duckie a few years ago, and several months later, bought Luna. When we introduced the two--outside the cage--Delainey was alarmed because Duckie seemed to be attacking Luna. Duckie would chew a little, and even flipped Luna over to chew on that side. "NO," I told Delainey, "Duckie is GROOMING Luna!" Which was a good sign.

They've lived together in the three level wire cage with occasional little squabbles as siblings sometimes have. This morning, Delainey woke me up to tell me that although Duckie was still breathing, she was dying. When I looked in on the two rats, Luna had dragged a large pile of shavings up to the second level: they have NEVER done this, they've used the old socks I've provided to lay on. Luna made a bed for Duckie, and Delainey told me Luna even tried to drag Duckie onto this bed by biting and pulling, so Delainey helped move Duckie. Now, Luna is laying partially on Duckie, and grooming her face, and I'm pretty sure I'd have a fighting match if I tried to move either one right now, so I'm leaving Duckie there till the end.
When Delainey told Mike about what Luna was doing, he pretty much scoffed and said that rats don't have feelings and don't know sickness. He is so wrong.
Duckie was such a sweetheart, she is going to be missed. Poor Luna, she's going to miss Duckie probably more than we will.
